How to Run a Backlink Analysis

Audit your domain's inbound link profile or spy on your top SERP competitors using the Backlink Analysis tool.

Backlink Analysis Overview

Off-page SEO is driven by the quality and quantity of domains linking back to your website. The Backlink Analysis tool allows you to reverse-engineer exactly where your competitors are getting their authority.

Running an Audit

  1. Select Backlink Analysis from the left navigation pane.
  2. Enter the target domain URL (e.g., competitor.com).
  3. Click Analyze.

Understanding the Metrics

  • Total Backlinks: The raw number of individual links pointing to the domain.
  • Referring Domains: The number of unique websites linking to the domain. (Generally, finding 10 new Referring Domains is much more valuable than getting 10 Links from one domain).
  • DoFollow vs NoFollow: DoFollow links pass PageRank and impact your organic rankings. NoFollow links do not pass direct authority, but contribute to a natural link profile.

Advanced Tactics

If you find a high-quality 'DoFollow' link pointing to your competitor, identify the context of that link. Was it a guest post? A resource page? You can reach out to that webmaster and offer an even better piece of content to secure a link for your own domain.
